Album Info:Grenada Railway presently owned & leased by Iowa Pacific Holdings, a national shortline operator begins at MP 703.8 in Canton, MS & goes to MP 403.0 at Southaven, MS, just south of Memphis, TN. In the past, Grenada Railway has been owned by Canadian National & Illinois Central railroads, acting as the "Mainline of Mid-America", featuring the Panama Limited & City of New Orleans operated by Illinois Central Railraod until 1971, when Amtrak began all operations of passenger trains across the US. Amtrak's City of New Orleans made it's last run on the Grenada Subdivision in 1995 before being permanently rerouted onto the Yazoo Sub. In 2009, Canadian National Railroad sold the Grenada Subdivision from MP 703.8 in Canton to MP 403.0 in Southaven to V&K Railroad Materials, who put the ABS signals along the line out of service, and seeked to abandon the line at MP 622.5 south of Grenada to MP 703.8 at Canton in 2011. After much protest & fanfair, V&K Railroad Materails abandoned their notice, and in the following years, Grenada Railway is bought by North Mississippi Regional Railroad Authority, who turned it over to Iowa Pacific Holdings.
